CHARLOTTE DOS SANTOS HARVEST TIME

Charlotte Dos Santos' new song 'Harvest Time', paired with a stunning video, is her first release on Because Records. The Berlin-based, Brazilian-Norwegian jazz singer wrote the song at what she describes as an "emotionally turbulent and spiritually confusing” time. Charlotte tells us that "'Harvest Time' is about killing your ego and burying the old - be it yourself, old habits or thoughts, patterns that doesn’t serve you- and only harvest with you the important and necessary things to continue your growth." The video is filmed with a natural backdrop of waterfalls, forests and fields, staging Charlotte as a kind of graceful, natural goddess. The fragile, but weighty piano chords open the song, to be followed by dramatic strings. In the chorus, rhythmically complex drums tumble like heavy rain and richly layered, harmonised vocals utter "Bury, bury, bury yourself, it's harvest time..." In the spacious verses, Charlotte ponders "where did I sow, where did I grow my seed?" - a line that evokes thoughts of self-discovery or uncovering your authentic self. 'Harvest Time' is a  spiritually rich and fruitful piece of music, powerfully reminding us to connect with nature and our true sense of self. Charlotte Dos Santos is to play at Village Underground, London on Tuesday the 10th of March. -Ellie Rose-Davies
